Try-On Haul: Fresh Picks for the Season Ahead

Try-On Haul: Fresh Picks for the Season Ahead

Hi, friends. Happy Monday! Today, I’ve got a new try-on haul featuring a mix of 4-season pieces and transition styles. Along with some fresh finds from LOFT, Evereve, and Nordstrom, I’ve also revisited a few retailers I haven’t shopped in a while—like Ann Taylor, Spanx, Quince, and White House Black Market. It’s a long one, so let’s dive in!

Try-On Haul: Fresh Picks for the Season Ahead from Evereve, LOFT, White House Black Market, Nordstrom, Spanx, Ann Taylor & more

As usual, I will provide measurements and fabric content on each item when I can find it, and I’ll share whether I plan to keep it or not. Just remember, even when I decide not to keep something, it doesn’t mean it isn’t worth checking out. I just may not need it, or it may not work for my body type or lifestyle.

SIZING NOTES: I’m 5’5″ and I usually wear a small or medium in tops and dresses, a 29 or 30 in jeans and pants, and a size 8 shoe. Gifted items are indicated by c/o; everything else I purchased myself.

Black Pants Comparison: Theory, LOFT, WHBM, and SPANX

As I mentioned in my Style Goals for 2025, one of my top priorities this year is finding a new pair of go-to black pants. While I’m open to adding other non-denim styles to my wardrobe, black pants are at the top of my list. For me, black pants are not just a fallback or a “safe” option—they’re intentional choice because I truly love wearing black, and it complements so much of what I already own.

I’ve ordered a few pairs to try, and I think I’ve found a winner! That said, after taking these photos, I realized I need a different size. So, I’ll be returning and reordering—and probably having them hemmed, too. But I’m getting ahead of myself…

Theory Slim Fit Stretch Wool Trousers

at Nordstrom (8) // Vince Boiled Cashmere Cardigan (M) // Vince Bianca (8.5)

DETAILS: A flat front shapes these sim-fit pants cut from pure wool with a hint of stretch to keep you comfortable.

  • 33″ inseam; 19″ leg opening; 11 1/2″ front rise; 15″ back rise (size 8)
  • Zip fly with hook-and-bar closure
  • Front slant pockets; back welt pockets
  • 96% wool, 4% elastane
  • Dry clean

These pants are definitely a splurge, but I wanted to try a high-quality, classic pair that I can keep in my wardrobe for years. Since I don’t wear black pants often, I want something timeless and versatile. When I do reach for black pants, it’s usually for dressier occasions, so investing in a quality brand feels like a wise choice.

These pants are lovely, and the quality is evident in both the fabric and craftsmanship. They’re made from 96% wool—almost unheard of these days—with 4% elastane for just the right amount of stretch, ensuring comfort and excellent shape recovery.

They have a flattering, slim fit with a subtle bootcut silhouette that should be highly versatile and pair well with a variety of shoes. They’re also lightweight with plenty of stretch, making them comfortable to wear. Unfortunately, this pair was too small—I’d need the size 10 for a better fit at the waist and across the hips. The length is also too long, but that’s an easy fix with hemming.

VERDICT: Returned. I would have ordered the 10, but I found another pair I like that is more affordable…

White House Black Market High-Rise Straight Pant

at WHBM (8) // Vince Boiled Cashmere Cardigan (M) // Vince Bianca (8.5)

DETAILS: Our ever popular style, now all new with a high-rise waist and our exclusive luxe double weave fabric — our most luxurious yet. Super comfortable and soft, it’s styled with two slanted pockets and pairs well with the matching jacket for a head-to-toe look. Your work to weekend wardrobe just got even more versatile.

  • Full length; Straight through hips and thighs
  • Regular: 30 1/2″, Short 28 1/2″, Long 32 1/2″
  • 75% Polyester, 18% Viscose, 7% Elastane. Machine wash cold.

These pants don’t feel as high-quality as the Theory pair, which makes sense given that they’re mostly polyester, but they still look and feel quite nice. They’re fully lined and have a flattering slim-straight silhouette.

Unfortunately, they were also too tight. I wasn’t expecting to have trouble with size 8s, but here we are! The length on this pair is better, but it’s almost too short—I wish they had just another half inch.

VERDICT: I returned these, as well. And once again, I would try the size 10, but I found a pair I like better…

SPANXsmooth™ PerfectFit Ponte Flare Pant

at SPANX & Nordstrom (M) // Vince Boiled Cashmere Cardigan (M) // Vince Bianca (8.5)

DETAILS: This smoothing pant comes in our premium ponte fabric with targeted compression built in, powered by SPANX CoreSure Tech™. With comfortable 4-way stretch, these curve-hugging flares provide the PerfectFit, every time. All you have to do is simply pull them on. No zippers, no buttons, and no pockets (so no bulk!) at the hips—all for the ultimate smoothing effect.

  • 11 3/8” approximate flare leg opening
  • Inseams: Petite 30”, Regular 32.5″, Tall 34.5″
  • Pull-on (no zippers or buttons in sight)
  • 68% Ecovero™ Viscose, 28% Nylon, 4% Elastane
  • Machine Wash Cold, Gentle Cycle. Line Dry. Or Dry Clean.

These pull-on pants are made from a ponte knit rather than a wool or polyester blend. If I wore black pants more often, I’d probably want both options, but since I don’t, these feel like the most practical choice. They’re very comfortable, and the price is reasonable. My only dilemma is sizing.

I ordered the size medium in both regular and petite lengths. (I’m wearing the regular above and the petite below.) Initially, I thought the petite length would work, so I returned the regular pair.

But when we took photos for yesterday’s post, I realized the petites are just a bit too short. They work with these low heels, but if I ever want to wear a higher heel, they’ll likely look off.

Here’s a picture where I’m wearing them with red slingbacks. Maybe it’s the contrast in colors, but the length issue seems even more noticeable here.

VERDICT: The petite length is okay, but I’d prefer the flexibility to wear a higher heel. I’m planning to reorder the regular length and have them hemmed. I’ll bring two heel heights with me to ensure they work for both.

Sutton Flare Pant in Bi Stretch in Black

at LOFT (8) // Vince Boiled Cashmere Cardigan (M) // Vince Bianca (8.5)

DETAILS: A modern flare with polished pintucks – and slimming interior stretch pockets.

  • Sits at natural waist, 11 1/2″ rise
  • Full length, 31″ inseam
  • Fitted through the hip and knee, flaring out into a flattering wide leg
  • Front zip with hook and bar closure. Belt loops. Slash pockets. Back welt pockets.
  • 56% Cotton 37% Rayon 7% Spandex
  • Machine Washable

These pants are similar to the Spanx pair, with stretchy, unlined fabric and a pintucked seam down the front, but they didn’t fit as well. I’ve owned them in other colors in the past and liked them, but either the size 8 is too small for me now, or this pair runs smaller than the others I’ve tried—I’m not sure which.

I also prefer the pull-on, pocketless design of the Spanx pair. These have a bulkier hook-and-eye closure, and the side pockets add unnecessary bulk at the hips.

VERDICT: Returned. I prefer the fit and feel of the Spanx pair, but if I hadn’t found those, I would have considered trying these in a size 10.

New-In at White House Black Market

In my Reader Survey, many of you mentioned wanting to see more from White House Black Market, so I decided to give them another look. I used to shop there quite a bit in the past, but somewhere along the way, they fell off my radar. While browsing their black pants, I also picked out a few tops to try—here’s what I found!

Ribbed Crewneck Pullover

at WHBM (M) // LOFT Sutton Flare in Navy (8) // Dolce Vita Kanika (8)

DETAILS: This classic, easy ribbed sweater is elevated by contrasting trim on the crewneck, hem and cuffs. We’ve also added buttons on the cuffs for a touch of formality. Pair with your favorite denim.

  • Length: 23”
  • 39% polyester, 37% acrylic, 20% nylon, 4% wool
  • Machine wash cold

I can’t improve much on the website’s description of this top—it’s a polished piece with thoughtful details like the buttons on the cuffs, which add a nice touch. However, it’s quite body-conscious, even in the medium.

Here, I paired it with navy pants (the same LOFT Sutton Flare as shown above in black.) While this combination works, I think the top would look better with jeans to create more visual contrast. This outfit feels a little safe and boring, but adding a third piece could make it a nice option for workwear. The problem with adding a third piece is, it covers up the button cuffs, which are one of the top’s best features. So yeah… not sure what to make of this one.

VERDICT: Returned. It’s a nice top, but not for me. Perhaps it will appeal to some of you!

Relaxed Cashmere-Blend V-Neck Sweater in Heather Lunar

at WHBM (M) // AG Mari (29) // Schutz Arissa Woven (8)

DETAILS: Designed with a relaxed fit, this super soft cashmere-blend pullover has a variegated rib texture. Ideal for pairing with slim pants and denim.

  • Length: 22”
  • 40% rayon, 30% nylon, 25% polyester, 5% cashmere
  • Machine wash cold

I really like the knit details on this simple V-neck sweater, and the slightly relaxed fit and 22″ length. I ordered two colors and sizes to try, and while I like this pretty shade of blue/grey, I don’t think it does a whole lot for me. This is the medium, which might be a bit too big—although it fits me the same way it’s shown on the model, so maybe that’s intentional. Either way, I’m a bit undecided on both the color and fit.

Relaxed Cashmere-Blend V-Neck Sweater in Black

at WHBM (S) // MOTHER Dazzler (29) // Sam Edelman Cohen (8.5)

This is the same sweater, but in black and a size small—and I like this one much better. While I don’t really need another black sweater, the knit details on this one are so pretty, and it’s super lightweight, making it a nice option for the transition season. The smaller size fits well, but I could size up for a more relaxed look.

Here, I styled it with washed black jeans and leopard flats—a simple, classic look that still feels fresh and fun. With some jewelry and a complementary jacket or coat, I can definitely see myself wearing this look.

VERDICT: I’m holding onto this one for now, but I also found a similar style, so I have a decision to make.

Striped Ribbed Cardigan

at WHBM (M) // Ponte Square Neck Top (S) // MOTHER Dazzler (29) // Schutz Arissa Woven (8)

DETAILS: Gold crest buttons down the front and at the pockets provide visual contrast on this classic black and white striped ribbed cardigan. It’s a lightweight knit that’s ideal for the office and easily dresses up pants and denim.

  • Length: 21 ½”
  • 50% nylon, 36% rayon, 14% polyester
  • Machine wash cold

This is a pretty, polished piece that’s versatile enough to dress up or down. But, you guys, it has shoulder pads. They’re small, but they’re there, and I’m saying a big no thank you to shoulder pads. (Fortunately, they’re easily removable, so it’s not a deal breaker—but seriously, WHY?)

Online, they style this stripe cardigan with blue jeans and a white tank, but I also like how it pairs with the black top and washed black jeans. I tried it with a white tank and pumps as well, and buttoned it up to show how it looks that way.

VERDICT: I like it, but it doesn’t really stay put when un-buttoned, and that’s how I’d want to wear it. Ribbed knits are hard to wear. While this is a nice piece, I don’t see myself reaching for it. I’ll likely send it back, but it’s a great find for someone who needs something polished and versatile. (I recommend sizing up, if ordering.)

Ann Taylor Fashion Finds

Another retailer that came up frequently in my Reader Survey was Ann Taylor. I’ve always had a hit-or-miss experience with their pieces since they lean heavily into workwear and classic styles, but I do appreciate their quality, fit, and attention to detail. I ordered a few items from their “New Arrivals,” though some have already sold out. Also, they’re currently doing a 30% off sale.

Ann Taylor Ponte Square Neck Tank Top

at Ann Taylor – sold out (S) // MOTHER Dazzler (8) // Schutz Arissa Woven (8)

Unfortunately, this top sold out before I could share it, which is a shame because I really like it. It’s a cute and updated take on a basic tank—perfect for wearing on its own or layered (as I styled it under the striped sweater above). That said, it runs small, and I wish I’d ordered the medium. If it were still available, I’d definitely reorder, but it looks like it’s completely sold out.

Ann Taylor Striped Layered Mixed-Media Sweater

at Ann Taylor – 30% off (S) // MOTHER The Hustler Roller Patch Pocket Sneak (29) // old Vince boot

DETAILS: Master the art of streamlined layering, courtesy of this soft sweater framed by a crisp shirt collar and hem. Ribbed V-neck with woven point collar. Long raglan sleeves. Woven shirttail hem.

  • Softly fitted length
  • Knit Layer: 55% Cotton, 27% Polyester, 18% Nylon
  • Woven Layer: 79% Cotton, 18% Nylon, 3% Spandex
  • Machine Washable

This is a throwback look, if I’ve ever seen one! I like the classic vibe of this layered-look top, and as someone who hates the bulkiness of layering a sweater over a button-up, I can appreciate the design. However, the proportions just don’t work for me—I’m not a fan of the length.

VERDICT: I’ll be returning this one.

Ann Taylor Dotted Button Popover in Night Sky

at Ann Taylor – 30% off (S) // PAIGE Leenah (29) // Sam Edelman Bianka (8.5)

DETAILS: Shirred along the shoulders and puffed at the sleeves, this fluidly woven blouse fits with an irresistible hint of flowing movement.

  • An easy, body-skimming fit length
  • 100% Polyester
  • Machine Washable

This is a really pretty blouse that’s perfect for work or other more conservative occasions. I love the subtle print and the feminine details. It’s navy and white, so I styled it with dark wash jeans and red slingbacks for a fun touch. I know what I’ve said about pops of red, but I rather like it with the navy and white combo—though I’d probably like it even more with white bottoms.

Here you can see both the untucked and front-tucked versions of the look. I’d definitely go for a front tuck with a belt to create a more polished vibe. Ideally, you’d tuck it all the way around, but since I’m short-waisted, that look doesn’t work as well for me.

VERDICT: I like this blouse, but it’s not something I see myself reaching for often. I also tend to feel a bit shapeless in woven tops. I never fully understood why until I was listening to one of the Everyday Style School podcasts, and Jen explained it this way: “Knits cling, and wovens glide.” That’s why I like sweaters so much! Knitwear tends to highlight my curves, whereas woven fabrics often make me look boxy.

A Few Fresh Finds from LOFT

Next up are a few pieces I ordered from LOFT, and all of them are on sale! They’ve been hanging on my rolling rack for a while now, and I’m not sure why I waited so long to try them on—there are some really great finds here.

LOFT Tipped Half Zip Sweater

at LOFT – 40% off (S) // MOTHER Dazzler (29) // Schutz Arissa Woven (8)

DETAILS: With a half-zip neck, this cozy sweater is a wear-with-everything necessity with fresh, sporty attitude – in a combed cotton blend knit for extra softness. Zip foldover collar. Long sleeves.

  • Slim fit— streamlined to fit close to the body
  • Length: Abbreviated – hits at natural waist
  • 22 3/4″ long
  • Fabric: 72% Cotton 28% Polyester
  • Machine Washable

I really like this sweater. The black-and-white color combo is so striking, and the half-zip detail adds a sporty, modern touch. It also feels and looks like great quality, which was a pleasant surprise. LOFT sweaters have been leaning a bit too heavy on polyester lately, but this one is 72% cotton—definitely a win in my book.

The fit is close to the body without being clingy, and the length is just right for leaving untucked.

I styled this sweater with washed black jeans and silver flats, which I think is cute, but it would also look great dressed down with blue jeans and sneakers—maybe the silver GOLA Torpedo.

VERDICT: I’m tempted to keep this one, although I wonder if I should try the medium. I kind of like how it fits the model, although when I put it on, I felt like it fit appropriately. Thoughts?

LOFT Striped Shoulder Button Wedge Sweater

at LOFT – 40% off (S) // MOTHER The Hustler Roller Patch Pocket Sneak (29) // old Vince boots

DETAILS: In a combed cotton blend knit for extra softness, button trim and slouchy wedge styling treat this sweater to a pop of cool polish. Crew neck. Long sleeves.

  • Classic fit— follows your contours with a little room
  • Length: Abbreviated – hits at natural waist
  • 22 1/2″ long
  • Fabric: 100% Cotton
  • Machine Washable

This sweater is another pleasant surprise, and a nice quality piece that’s 100% cotton. I like the navy striped pattern and the button detail on the shoulder, and it pairs perfectly with the wide leg jeans I’m wearing here.

VERDICT: I’m keeping this one. I just wish spring was closer to arriving here in Philly! This is definitely more of a transitional piece for me.

LOFT The Modern Wedge Tee

at LOFT – 40% off (S) // MOTHER The Hustler Roller Patch Pocket Sneak (29) // old Vince boots

DETAILS: Our most dressed up tee with an of-the-moment silhouette and details. Round neck. Cap sleeves.

  • Classic fit- follows your contours with a little room
  • Regular length- hits below natural waist
  • 25″ long
  • Fabric- 60% Cotton 40% Modal
  • Machine Washable

LOFt carries this tee every year, and I was excited to see it return since the one I had last year got stained. It’s made from a good-quality cotton/modal blend, which gives it an elevated look and feel. My only complaint is that it’s a little stiff, but it’s not see-through. In fact, I’m wearing a black bra here, and you can’t even tell!

VERDICT: I’ll hold onto this; it’s a good price for a quality white tee. It also comes in black, red, and beige.

LOFT Brushed Cropped Shirt Jacket

at LOFT – sold out (S) // LOFT Striped Tee (M) AG Mari (29) // Schutz Arissa Woven (8)

Well, boo—another one that sold out. It’s a shame because this is such a nice piece. That said, I’m not sure I’ll keep it. It’s been too cold here for a jacket like this, and I’ve been wearing heavy coats every day. I already have a couple similar styles that I love, but I haven’t had a chance to wear them this season.

LOFT Topstitched Bubble Hem Jacket

at LOFT – 30% off (S) // MOTHER The Hustler Roller Patch Pocket Sneak (29) // LOFT The Modern Wedge Tee (S) // old Vince boots

DETAILS: With chic contrast stitching and a bubble hem for the coolest finish, this structured woven stretch cotton twill jacket is a total intrigue. Funnel collar. Long sleeves with button cuffs. Button front. Flap besom pockets.

  • Relaxed fit— an easy shape that’s just shy of loose
  • Length: Abbreviated – hits at natural waist
  • 20″ long
  • Fabric: Shell: 98% Cotton 2% Spandex, Lining: 100% Polyester
  • Machine Washable

Now, this is really cute and different! I love the contrast stitching and bubble hem. It’s lightweight and crisp but still a soft, nice quality fabric.

VERDICT: Even though I won’t be able to wear it for a while, I’m temped to keep this one. I think it’s really fun and different.

New-In at Evereve

You know I can’t do a Try-On Haul without including a few Evereve finds, and as usual, they did not disappoint.

Rocky Two Pocket Utility

at Evereve (S) // MOTHER Weekend (29) // VEJA Esplar (39)

DETAILS: Elevate your everyday layering collection with the Rocky jacket by EVEREVE. Topped with utility-style chest pockets, this easy-to-love jacket features a cropped length, front zipper and snap closures, and seamed long sleeves.

  • Length from Shoulder to Hem: 21″
  • 87% Viscose, 9% Polyester, 4% Spandex Woven
  • Machine Wash Cold, Tumble Dry Low

I have almost this exact jacket from last season, and I wore it a ton throughout our very mild fall. Of course, it sold out soon after I bought mine, and so many of you wanted it. So, if you’re interested, grab it now—good jackets always sell out before the weather cooperates to wear them!

I’m also happy to report that this year’s version is even better. They fixed a minor design flaw by tacking down a piece of lining near the collar that didn’t always lay flat, and the new fabric is more wrinkle-resistant. Last year’s version was primarily linen, while this one is a rayon-based fabric with 4% spandex for added comfort and mobility. I actually like it better—it’s softer against the skin and holds its shape better.

VERDICT: It’s really silly for me to keep this one since I still have last year’s version, but being part linen, that one shrank a bit when I washed it. It’s also hard to get it ironed out nice and crisp again. I also love how they tacked down the lining on this one—it goes on and off much more easily. So… I’m tempted to keep it. What would you do?

Rhodes Sweatshirt Dress

at Evereve (S) // Gola Torpedo Sneakers (8.5)

DETAILS: Easy, elevated, and perfect for everyday wear, the Rhodes Sweatshirt Dress by EVEREVE is crafted in soft brushed knit fabric and features a relaxed crewneck silhouette with long sleeves and angled patch pockets.

  • Neckline: Crew Neck
  • Length from Shoulder to Hem: 34 7/8″
  • Material: 90% Polyester, 5% Rayon, 5% Spandex Brushed Knit
  • Care: Machine Wash Cold, Tumble Dry Low

I really like this sweatshirt dress. The fabric is nice and thick and extremely soft, and it has some thoughtful details for added interest. Also, the fit isn’t as boxy as some sweatshirt dresses. It actually has a bit of shape through the waist, and it’s not too tight in unfortunate places. I ordered both the small and the medium, and was I pleasantly surprised to find the small fits just fine.

The only downside is that it’s so cold here, I’d need to wear it with tights—but I don’t think it would look as good that way. I would want to wear it as I styled it here—bare-legged with silver sneakers for a casual, sporty vibe. And when it warms up this spring, will it be too heavy? Decisions…

VERDICT: I’m not sure! I really like it, but will I wear it??

Romy Relaxed Polo Top

at Evereve (M) // PAIGE Leenah Ankle (29) // GOLA Torpedo (8.5)

DETAILS: A collared neckline adds a polished feel to the Romy top by EVEREVE. Perfect alone or layered, this long sleeve tee features a relaxed fit, cotton slub fabric, and a curved raw-edge hem.

  • Length from Shoulder to Hem: 24″
  • Material: 100% Cotton Slub Jersey
  • Care: Machine Wash Cold, Tumble Dry Low

This polo neck top is a great alternative to the Frank & Eileen Patrick, and it comes at a much better price. The fabric is a lightweight 100% cotton jersey, and it has a relaxed fit with a nice shape. It’s slightly looser and less structured than the Patrick, but it even features raw hems for a similar look.

My only complaint is that it’s fairly low-cut—more so than the Patrick, which is already on the low side. I may need to use fabric tape to avoid any wardrobe malfunctions.

VERDICT: I don’t really need this since I already have the Patrick in navy, but I do love an easy black shirt—and this one is a great price. I’m still debating.

Jojo Seamed Sweatshirt

at Evereve – 25% off (M) // PAIGE Leenah Ankle (29) // GOLA Torpedo (8.5)

DETAILS: The Jojo sweatshirt by EVEREVE will be your go-to everyday staple, featuring a crewneck silhouette, ribbed trim, and raglan sleeves with seamed detailing. Pair with jeans or cargo pants and sporty sneakers.

  • Length from Shoulder to Hem: 22 1/2″
  • Material: 88% Cotton, 12% Polyester Knit
  • Care: Machine Wash, Wash Cold, Dry Flat

This sweatshirt is so fun and unique—and it’s on sale and selling out fast! If you’re interested, grab it while you can. I love this muted red color, and the fabric is thick and soft on the inside. Plus, check out the sleeve detail—it’s a fun, feminine touch without going full puff sleeve.

VERDICT: I’m actually not crazy about the seamed detailing on the sleeves, but I love everything else about it, and I need some color in my wardrobe, so I’m keeping this one.

Random Nordstrom Finds

Okay, home stretch! I have a few more random finds from Nordstrom to share.

Madewell Relaxed Fit V-Neck Wool & Silk Sweater

at Nordstrom (S) // PAIGE Leenah Ankle (29) // GOLA Torpedo (8.5)

DETAILS: Featuring a deep V-neck and dropped shoulders, this relaxed wool-and-silk sweater brings effortless sophistication to any ‘fit.

  • 23 1/2″ length
  • 75% merino wool, 25% silk
  • Dry clean

This sweater is super simple, but the wide V-neck and slouchy fit immediately caught my eye while I was scrolling the Nordstrom website. When I checked the fabric content and saw it’s a merino wool/silk blend, I knew I had to try it.

I feel like this is a great basic to have, and I really like the quality of the fabric. The touch of silk is so nice, and my wardrobe is heavy on bulky, cozy sweaters right now. I could use a few more feminine, fun options for date nights and similar occasions.

VERDICT: I really like this sweater, but I feel like it should be slouchier. I’ve ordered the medium to compare, and I’ll decide between this one and the relaxed cashmere blend v-neck from White House Black Market. They would serve similar purposes in my closet, and I don’t need both.

Halogen® Mixed Stitch Sweater

at Nordstrom – 35%off (S) // MOTHER The Hustler Roller Patch Pocket Sneak (29) // old Vince boots

DETAILS: A mix of stitches inspired by classic fisherman styles brings rich texture to this sweater knit for an easy, relaxed fit from soft yet resilient yarns.

  • 22″ length
  • 73% acrylic, 24% polyester, 3% spandex
  • Hand wash, dry flat

This sweater is also on sale and selling quickly! While it doesn’t measure up to the quality of the other sweaters in this post (check the fabric content), it’s lightweight, soft, and very comfortable. I also love the raglan sleeves and mixed-stitch fisherman design. Plus, it comes in a variety of colors.

VERDICT: I don’t think I’ll be keeping this one, but for under $50, it’s a great option if you’re looking for a lightweight, versatile sweater to round out your winter wardrobe.

AG Mari Mid Rise Slim Straight Leg Jeans in 12 Years Fleur

at Nordstrom (29) // LOFT shirt jacket (S) // LOFT Striped Tee (M)

DETAILS: Cut from premium Japanese denim, these essential slim-cut, straight-leg jeans boast a well-worn fade and a touch of comfy stretch.

  • 29” inseam; 13” leg opening; 9 3/4” front rise; 15″ back rise (size 29)
  • 98% cotton, 2% polyurethane
  • Machine wash, tumble dry

I already own these jeans in black and thought this dark wash might be a nice addition. They’re a great slim straight-leg style with a 29″ ankle length, and I really love the wash. The subtle whiskering and fading give them a bit more character than a standard inky dark wash.

That said, I feel like this pair has a slightly lower rise than my black ones, and it cuts right across the fluffiest part of my midsection, which isn’t very comfortable. (It’s also a bit snug in the waistband, so it might be time to size up to the 30.)

VERDICT: I returned these, but they’re great jeans—just not the right fit for me. If you’re looking for a good pair of dark wash jeans, this could be a solid option.

MOTHER The Hustler Roller Patch Pocket Sneak Wide Leg Jeans

at mother.com & Bloomingdale’s (29) // LOFT The Modern Wedge Tee (S) // old Vince boots

DETAILS: 70s-inspired wide leg jeans with a high rise, patch pockets, 30.50-inch inseam and clean hem. Cut from stretch denim, Piece By Piece is mid blue with subtle whiskering and fading.

  • 30″ inseam; 12″ front rise (size 28)
  • 78% cotton, 16% modal, 4% polyester, 2% elastane
  • Machine wash, tumble dry

I’m already a fan of the MOTHER Hustler Roller, so when I saw this light wash pair with front patch pockets and trouser-style hems, I couldn’t resist ordering them to try. They’re incredibly stretchy and comfortable—I didn’t want to take them off! Plus, they’re surprisingly flattering for a wide-leg jean.

That said, I wish they were just a smidge shorter. As they are, I’d have to wear them with the highest heels in my closet or have them hemmed.

VERDICT: I really don’t need these. I already have a similar pair that I don’t wear much—though I’m not entirely sure why. They’re an inch shorter, so I can wear them with most of my boots, but for some reason, they tend to get overlooked. This pair would be great for summer, especially in this wash, but I don’t need another pair of jeans I can only wear with heels. So… yeah. I’m conflicted.

Splurge or Save: Cashmere Crew Neck Sweaters

Okay, just a few more! I ordered two cashmere crew neck sweaters to compare.

Vince Classic Crewneck Cashmere Sweater

at Nordstrom (M) // MOTHER The Dazzler (29) // Schutz Arissa Woven (8)

DETAILS: Ultrasoft cashmere yarns give luxurious softness to this classic sweater with ribbed trim.

  • 22″ length (size Medium)
  • Crewneck
  • Long sleeves
  • 100% cashmere
  • Dry clean or hand wash, dry flat

First up is the Vince sweater, which I already own in black and really like. It’s such a great basic—perfect for layering. This camel shade is beautiful too—lighter and a bit cooler than some camel tones, which works well for my coloring. I also love the subtle detailing at the neckline; it’s finished so nicely. And of course, being Vince, the quality is fantastic. It’s incredibly soft and luxe.

VERDICT: I like it, and I know it’s the kind of piece I’d have for years, but I paid full price for it, and I don’t know that I really need it. Let’s take a look at the “save” version…

Quince Cashmere Crew in Oatmeal

at Quince (M) // MOTHER The Dazzler (29) // Schutz Arissa Woven (8)

DETAILS: This is the one that put us on the map—and it’s now better than ever, for the same $50. We’ve elevated our cashmere to be irresistibly soft, smoother to the touch, and more durable, with less pilling and a more substantial feel. Sustainably and ethically sourced, our cashmere remains incredibly long-lasting and three times warmer than wool. — Quince

  • 100% Grade-A Mongolian cashmere
  • Crew neck, ribbed cuffs and hem
  • Hand wash cold. Lay flat to dry.

This is the famous “$50 cashmere crewneck” from Quince in Oatmeal, and I have to say, the quality is impressive for the price point. I ordered the medium, and while it fits well and I wouldn’t want it any smaller, it does feel a bit long. It’s fine, but I really prefer the 23″ length of the Vince sweater—and I like the Vince color a little better, too.

I also ordered the Quince sweater in the Teak color, as they didn’t have a camel shade. While Teak is closer to a true camel, it fits smaller than the other sweater, even though both are size medium. This one feels a bit skimpy, and honestly, I can’t get too excited about it. It’s very basic, but still a great deal for the price.

VERDICT: I ended up returning all of them. I already have a camel V-neck sweater that I love, and I’m kind of over shopping for winter right now, but I wanted to share this comparison in case anyone’s interested. I’ll decide next fall if I need a new camel crewneck sweater.

And stay tuned—I have a bunch of black pants coming from Quince, but they’re taking for-ev-er to arrive. I’ll share my thoughts once they get here!
