Once February hits and the days start getting noticeably longer, it feels like spring might be just around the corner… But the reality is, there’s still plenty of winter left. While I’m already daydreaming about spring fashion and planning a warm-weather getaway, it’s still very cold here in Philly.
This is the time of year when I start craving more color in my life—whether it’s a bright red manicure, a new flower arrangement for my kitchen counter, or a cheery stripe sweater. Adding little pops of color to my home and wardrobe always helps bridge that gap between winter and spring. If you’re feeling the same way and wondering what to wear when it’s still cold but you’re over winter, I’ve got a few outfit ideas to help!

Add a Pop of Color with a Bright Sweater
You know me—I’m a sweater girl through and through, so this time of year, I like to add a few fun colors to brighten things up. I recently picked up this bold green and navy stripe pullover that I styled with flare jeans and silver sneakers, and I also love this grey and pink version.
Another one I’ve been loving is this pink stripe rib crewneck sweater. It’s the perfect pop of color to liven up my late winter wardrobe and will transition seamlessly into spring.

Fresh Neutrals with a Twist
Even a neutral pullover can feel fresh with the right details. I’m loving this half zip with the subtle stripes—it’s fun without being over-the-top, and you can wear into spring with jean shorts when the weather warms up.
Side note: I’ve tried twice this week to get a proper photo shoot in, and both got canceled. So, we’re rolling with mirror selfies for a lot of these outfits! I really wanted to shoot this look, though, because I think it’s so cute—sporty, but make it classy… if you will.

Lighten Up Your Layers
Lightening things up can be just as fun as adding bold color, like this navy/white Isabel Hoodie from Evereve—it’s the perfect mix of classic and fresh.

Another easy way to lighten up a winter outfit without sacrificing warmth is to pair white jeans with a soft grey cashmere sweater—bonus points for topping it off with a coordinating grey wool coat. This combo is simple yet polished, and the tonal layers keep it feeling fresh for the season.

Step Into Lighter Footwear
For footwear, silver shoes are having a moment right now, and they’re an easy way to add a lighter touch to your winter outfits. These woven ballet flats are right on trend and super comfortable. I’ll probably wait for milder days to wear them since I’m not a fan of pairing them with socks or tights, but they’re perfect for that in-between weather.

I’ve also been reaching for my Gola Torpedo sneakers a lot lately, but if you’re in the mood for something bolder, how fun is this bright pink P448 Monza?

The bright pink isn’t really me, so I recently picked up this more muted pair of adidas Handball Spezial Sneakers in the Cream White / Powder Coral / Semi Coral. They still add a fun element of color, but in a way that feels more my style.

More Ways to Brighten Up Your Winter Wardrobe
I don’t have photos for these, but they’re great options to keep in mind!
- Play with Textures: Adding lighter or unexpected textures—like a satin skirt with a chunky knit—can make cold-weather outfits feel less heavy and more transitional.
- Layer with Lighter Outerwear: Weather permitting, swap heavy coats for lighter layers like denim jackets over hoodies, quilted vests, or a classic trench coat.
- Incorporate Spring Prints: Florals, gingham, or even polka dots can help mentally shift into spring mode while still keeping your layers seasonally appropriate. Try a floral blouse under a cardigan or blazer for an easy transition.
- Swap Out Dark Denim: Light-wash, white, or ecru denim instantly freshens up winter outfits and creates a softer, more spring-ready look.
- Add Statement Accessories: Bold earrings, colorful handbags, or even a bright beanie can breathe new life into winter basics—an easy way to incorporate trends without overhauling your whole wardrobe.
- Switch Up Footwear: Lighter-toned boots (like tan, beige, or taupe) or loafers with fun socks are an easy way to break up darker winter outfits.
- Midi & Maxi Skirts with Boots: A flowy skirt in silk or chiffon paired with tall boots keeps you warm while feeling a little more spring-like.
- Sheer or Lightweight Layers: Try a sheer turtleneck under a dress or a lightweight cardigan over a tank for a subtle hint of spring layering without fully committing to warm-weather clothes.
If you’re feeling over winter but still dealing with chilly temps, I hope these outfit ideas help add a little color and freshness to your wardrobe.
