For the last week, Lady Gaga has been teasing a new era by taking fans on a trip through memory lane on her website. Each day, the homepage has reflected a different album before at last landing on a countdown clock that, today, became an announcement for Lady Gaga 7. Mayhem is coming; you better prepare.

Lady Gaga's Mayhem Era Brings Dark Hair and Bangs

You know what a new album means in pop star land, right? A new hairstyle! While Gaga’s brand-new long layers with corresponding bangs are visible on the album cover decorating her site, Elle offered a better look at the style this morning when they shared a peek at the cover of their March 2025 Power Issue via Instagram.

Long and layered, Gaga’s hair was worn down and styled by Akki Shirakawa in that cool-girl, undone, unbrushed way for the shoot. Besides the color—a deep, warm brunette—the biggest thing to note here is the new fringe: a set of choppy, straight-across bangs that cover her bleached eyebrows.

Lady Gaga's Hair Journey

While it might look like an every day style for say, Dakota Johnson, the 38-year-old’s locks actually mark a new direction in her hairstyling journey. We’ve certainly seen her with dark hair before (she’s always bouncing between black and her signature icy blonde, and I’ll never forget you, A Star is Born) and the bangs are nothing entirely new, either. But together… it’s mayhem, actually.

Gone are the vintage starlet twists and updos that tell us a Tony Bennett-duet is incoming, instead—well, I guess we have to wait for the album rollout to find out exactly what this hair is communicating. But hidden among black hearts in her Instagram comments, you’ll find many a little monster mentioning mother is on the way to “save dark pop.”

And look mighty good doing it.
